Cardrona, NZ Conditions Report

Spring is a great time to be skiing at Cardrona, the lift lines are significantly shorter now and 2 of their lifts now have extended opening hours until 5pm.

The Olympic Superpipe continues to be very well looked after and is groomed to perfection daily. Hours of operation will depend on temperatures but expect early closing times. The smaller International Superpipe isn’t being quite as maintained but remains open for most of the day. The Small, Medium and Large parks are still being kept up throughout the day with regular closures to allow take off’s and landings to be touched up.

High winds forced Cardrona to close this Sunday and have scoured some of the areas in Captain’s basin, watch out of icy and firm patches in the higher areas. The Arcadia chutes on the other hand have been a little wind loaded and are one of the better places to ski on the mountain.

To avoid the longer lift lines and to make some fast turns on great groomers head down to the Valley View quad. It’s the lowest of the lifts at Cardrona and rarely gets any crowds. There are several wide groomers down there and a little off-piste skiing variable terrain for the more adventurous.

Great snow all season and consistent storms have resulted in a solid base that should hold up for the remaining 5 weeks of the season. There are plenty of smaller natural features in Captain’s Basin that now have great coverage and are super fun to hit in the softer snow. There are also lots of fun areas to explore far skiers left of Captain’s that have very good snow for this time of year.
