This update is from 11:00am local time in Bariloche, Argentina
Catedral ski resort in Bariloche is closed today as the first in a series of Pacific storms is hitting the mountain.
Winds are currently steadily blowing at 45mph (75kph) at the top of the mountain and visibility is extremely limited. ย Due to this high wind and reduced visibility all lifts are closed for the day.
Only 2 cms of snow are being reported at this time and from the webcams that looks about right. ย This storm just arrived this morning and accumulation hasnโt occurred just yet.
The forecast is showing up to 86 cms (34 inches) of snow falling at Catedral between now and Wednesday with pretty non-stop action.
The real key right now is the temperatures. ย Temps are forecasted to stay low and not rise too much above the base of the mountain.ย ย One temperature spike occurs on Sunday, but that appears to be the only warm spot in the storms.
There is absolutely no snow at all at the base right now, so itโs going to be a huge help to get some snow down there so that we may be able to ski the lower part of the mountain in the coming weeks.
Right now, it appears the storm door is open and we can only hope that it stays open long enough to really plaster some snow on this mountain.
Oh, one last note, itโs pouring rain/snowing/sleeting in the town of Bariloche now and has been since I awoke at 8am.
