Report from August 11 & 12, 2024
The past two days at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Argentina have been a hoot.
Yesterday was cold, crisp, and chalky.
Today was warm, slushy, and splashy.
Which day was better?
I think a ski racer would have liked yesterday but as a freerider, I loved the spring snow today.
Nubes, the highest chair on the hill, was the place to be both days.
In general, we rally Nubes laps all day then drop the 3,300-vertical-feet from the top of the chair to the base of the mountain.
I spent both days trying to keep up with Greggy as he charged full speed on his Blizzard Rustlers.
Nubes is a world-class chair.
1,800-vertical-feet of “Hell Yes!”
What’s been magical this season is that Catedral now has four new chairlifts and a new trail at the base full of snowmaking that always has snow right to the base area.
In the past, on warmer years, the snow didn’t reach the base of the mountain and you had to download the chairlifts and it wasn’t ideal.
Now, we never have to do that again and it’s a dream…
The new chairlifts are $$$ as well as they spread out the crowd and help different zones of the mountain connect with ease.
The new chairs:
- Lenga
- Cipres
- Centro
- Nires
Catedral is now officially a world-class ski resort and we thank them for their hard work and vision.
Thanks, Argentina!
