Final preparations are underway for the construction of the Guthries Double Chairlift at Charlotte Pass, Australia. The Guthries Double Chairlift will be the second chairlift at the small ski resort Charlotte Pass located just 7 kilometers (4.35 miles) from Perisher Valley in the Kosciuszko National Park in New South Wales. Charlotte Pass offers skiing between 1,765 meters (5,791 feet) and 1954 m (6,411 feet) of altitude, giving a total of 189 meters (620 feet) of vertical. There are 10 kilometers (6.25 miles) of runs serviced by four lifts. The new Double Chair will replace the current Guthries Poma, which will double the lift capacity at Mount Guthrie from currently 900 people per hour to 1,800 people per hour.

Resort management at Charlotte Pass would like to advise the public that traffic management will be implemented this summer, affecting access to three key areas of Charlotte Pass:

  • Entry to the village via the driveway
  • Access to the turning circle via Kosciuszko Road
  • Access to the village via the Porcupine Rocks to Charlotte Pass Walk

Traffic management will generally be necessary only when helicopters are in operation or during heavy vehicle material drop-offs. A โ€˜Helicopter Management Areaโ€™ will be designated in the red zone below, with traffic control established in the yellow zone. This will also include pedestrian management along the Porcupine Rocks to Charlotte Pass walking track.

Please be mindful of these traffic management measures when traveling to Kosciuszko National Park, specifically if you are planning on hiking or mountain biking from the Charlotte Pass car park turning circle. The car park is a popular starting point in summer months for excursions to Thredbo via Mount Kosciuszko, Australiaโ€™s highest mountain, or to Guthega via the new Snowy Alpine Walk that opened in October 2022.
