Report from February 25, 2025
We slept in and rested this morning and watched the storm hit the mountain.
At times it was dumping chicken feathers and it was inspiring.
We waited until 2 pm to give the mountain some time to fill in before venturing out.
Martin and I rode 2 gondolas then slipped into the trees.
It had snowed about 3โณ and the skiing was good but you could still feel the bottom.
We bounced around and hit tree branches as we zigged and zagged looking for the softest snow.
After a few runs of this, the sun came outโฆ
We knew the sidecountry would be smoother than the inbounds terrain so we rode sardine can #1 up to Youla.
We played around in the windblown snow looking for instability and there definitely was some.
As we descended the snow just wasnโt deep enough for any real problems and we injected ourselves into our favorite zone.
We found pretty good skiing out there where the base was smooth and where the wind had filled things in.
I was still cautious and didnโt jump into terrain that was clearly going to avalanche without a ski cut.
All my ski cuts produced very tiny avalanches the size of a picnic table or so.
We split up, found fun lines through the trees, and met back up in the gully with bellies full of happiness and the smiles to prove it.
Iโve been here for 11 days now and this was the first snow and today I really saw this zoneโs true potential for the first time.
Wowโฆ
