Report from March 4, 2025
There’s a chute the looms over the town of Courmayeur and the ski resort.
We can see it from Martin’s house, from town, Dolonne, the ski resort, the Skyway, and just about everywhere else.
We knew we had to ski it.

Motivations and conditions appeared to line up on Monday and we set out.
4 ski lifts, a traverse, some skinning, and a killer bootpack lead us to the top.
I started out then Martin did the vast majority of the bootpack work.
We hit the top after about 1.5 hours of booting.
I felt great.
It was easy following Martin’s track in our mini-snowshoes.
Most of the chute was covered in a stiff wind crust, not the Alaskan Velvet we’d hoped for.
I dropped first and experienced 5 good turns before the breakable crust.
I battled and struggled until the apron where some smooth orange peel snow allowed for an easy escape.
It wasn’t perfect, but we were stoked to have checked it off.
Supposedly Nikolai Schrimer has skied this chute…
Martin & I traversed back to the ski resort and met up with my wife and Cory for an all-afternoon blitz of groomers, good food, and full laughs.
Dinner at Padella in town was pizzarific.
This place is magic.
Grazie, Italia!
