Report from November 29, 2024

I was honored to ski Deer Valley on their season pass appreciation day this past Friday.

They hooked up a free lunch (entree, dessert, fountain drink), and the skiing started at noon.

I showed up at about noon, and almost no one was around.

I rode up the Carpenter chairlift and then slid down to Sterling.

The skiing off Sterling on Bald Mountain was good.

Solid coverage with 1,100 vertical feet of good skiing.

The snow was soft, sun-kissed, supple, and very edge-able.

I didn’t wait in any lines, and the vibe at Deer Valley is super friendly, which always feels great.

I spun lap after lap on Sterling and even ran into an old buddy and badass competitive freeskier, Tyson Bolduc.

Once satisfied, I rolled over to Carpenter for a few laps on the front side.

Carpenter was in the shade and quite a bit more firm and icy than Sterling, but still fast and fun.

I spun two on Carpenter, then went into the Snow Park Lodge for my free lunch.

I needed protein so I asked the chef if I should get the burger or the crispy chicken sandwich.

Without hesitating he said chicken.

I sat outside in the sun with my trey of sandwich, brownie, and water and just beamed.

What a nice way to welcome folks back to the mountain.

I finished the sando and water and pocketed the brownie to share with my wife later.

I’d planned on heading home but I couldn’t handle not doing one more lap…

I cranked anther Carpenter lap and headed home happy.

Oh, and the snow whales are huge under some of the runs on Carpenter so I’m guessing more runs will open damn soon.

Thanks, Utah!
