Report from December 5, 2024

Another ski resort in the Lake Tahoe Basin has officially opened for the season!

Diamond Peak Ski Resort, Nevada, kicked things off on Thursday, December 5, and it was an absolutely beautiful day.

We arrived just minutes before the lifts started spinning, geared up, and wandered over to the Lakeview Quad.

It was my first time there, and my lady learned how to snowboard there years ago as an east-coaster who had never ridden before.

Certainly, both of us were overly excited to be there and to be back.

We took a few hot laps on Popular to get a feel for the snow and get our legs warmed up.

After a good early-season storm around November 25, it unfortunately has not snowed in the Lake Tahoe region since, and temperatures have been warm.

However, the hard-working team at Diamond Peak still opened up the resort from top-to-bottom with pristine conditions.

Our first couple of laps it felt like we were the only people out there; arching long, wide turns on the fast, grippy, untouched corduroy all the way back to the lift.

There were multiple times where we were the only people on the run. | Image: Author

Also, there was a pop-up Village Terrain Park with two boxes, a few rails, and a small jump situated at the bottom of Popular near Lodgepole.

Although I have never skied much park in my life, this year I am challenging myself to learn some basics.

After a couple of laps checking out the park features, it was time to go up Crystal Express to see the unbelievable views from the top of Diamond Peak that Iโ€™ve heard so much about.

Let me tell you; words donโ€™t do justice, pictures donโ€™t do justice, you truly have to see it for yourself!

Generally, I would get tired of skiing just a couple runs over and over again.

But the views and perfectly soft corn snow kept drawing me back for more.

We skied probably a dozen laps on Crystal Ridge with very few people on the mountain except for us.

Being able to ski top-to-bottom with some of the most memorable views overlooking Lake Tahoe to the west and Washoe Lake and the valley to the east was truly special.

Overall, my first day at Diamond Peak Ski Resort was so much fun, and I can hardly wait to get back on a powder day when the entire mountain is open.

Now, letโ€™s pray for snow and hope this winter really turns on for Tahoe soon.
