The Farad fire, which started on Monday and quickly grew to 670 acres, shut down I-80 between Reno and Truckee for most of Monday and Tuesday. Currently, the highway has reopened but is restricted to 1ย lane from the Nevada state line to 3 miles west. There are currently no evacuations, but Cal Fire says that 7 structures are threatened in the Gold Ranch and Verdi Peak areas. The fire is 20% contained tonight and is expected to be fully contained in the coming week. If you are passing through the area do not stop to take pictures, CHP will cite you. No cause of the fire has been determined yet. Luckily, a quick response and an abundance of water is making it look like this fire will be under control soon. This should serve as an example that even after a very wet winter fire danger still exists in the summer.ย
