On Saturday, August 31, around 8:30 p.m., the police in Gรถppingen were alerted to a fire at the Treffelhausen ski area in Germany. The fire crews in attendance discovered the valley station of one of the resortโ€™s three surface lifts engulfed in fire. Thankfully, the local fire brigades were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Sadly, the fire totally destroyed all technical lift installations in the valley station.

Fire brigades from Treffelhausen and nearby Bรถhmenkirch were deployed with 60 firefighters. The total damage is estimated to be several hundred thousand Euros. The police suspect arson, but the case is currently under investigation. The operator of the ski area, Hubert Lang, is shocked at the senseless destruction, stating in an interview with local newspaper Sรผdwest Presse, โ€œIf there had been money to steal, but just to break something? I just don’t understand it.โ€

The police are asking for witnesses to come forward. If you saw anything suspicious near the ski lifts late Saturday afternoon or evening or noticed any vehicles in the area, please contact the Ulm Police Headquarters at +49-(0)731/188-0.

Treffelhausen ski area is located near Stuttgart and is a small, family-operated ski area that stretches from 649-705 meters (2,129-2,313 feet) in altitude. The ski area offers 1 kilometer of alpine skiing and is serviced by three surface lifts (t-bars/pomas). The slopes are easy and suitable for beginners and families. However, it is also used by several ski clubs that offer ski lessons in the winter sports area Treffelhausen. There is also cross-country skiing offered on trails at the Treffelhausen ski area.
