Report from Sunday February 25, 2024
On the edge of the Wyoming-Idaho border, in a region known to locals as ‘Wydaho’, sits Grand Targhee ski resort. I recently made the trip there with a few friends who used to live in Teton Valley to have them show me around. The good news was that we avoided the low visibility conditions that have led to the nickname ‘Grand Fog-ghee’, and got some incredible views of Teton Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. The bad news was that it had been a while since the last substantial snowstorm.
Grand Targhee has a wide variety of terrain to choose from, and even on a day when it is best to stick to the groomers, there is plenty to ski. The recent addition of the Colter Lift has opened up lots of new terrain previously only accessible by snowcats or under human power. We found endless glades of ideally spaced trees, wide-open bowls, and fast groomers. After exploring most of the mountain, we managed to find some soft snow in the steep trees off the Dreamcatcher chairlift. Already looking forward to the next trip out there!

Weather Reportย
Unfortunately for us, it started snowing the day we left, with 24 inches in 24 hours. The rest of this week should bring some great snow to Targhee. According to the Short Range Ensemble Forecast, visualized with SpotWx, Targhee should see a few quiet and colder days before picking up some more snow starting on Friday. Should be another great weekend there!
