Growing up in metro Detroit, I greatly appreciate the offerings Michigan brings to skiing and snowboarding. The Mitten State is home to numerous small ski resorts, helping to build tight-knit communities of passionate skiers and riders that give these small resorts big personalities. Mount Brighton, located in the metro Detroit town of Brighton, is no different. From hosting high school ski events and offering ski lessons to young kids to hosting adult race leagues, Mount Brighton has something for everybody.
Despite Mount Brighton’s small size, it does not lack in its amount of fun and always brings out some of the Midwest’s most incredible skiers and snowboarders. I have been a pass holder of Mount Brighton for the last two seasons, and this has allowed me to meet some of the most passionate people who want to make snow sports fun for everybody. Growing up close to Mount Brighton, this community has always had a soft spot in my heart. Mount Brighton is where I discovered my passion for snowsports, and now I spend the majority of my winter days hanging out with my closest friends at Mount Brighton.
Mount Brighton attracts all sorts of winter sports enthusiasts from all ages. From the youngest kids on the mountain for the first time to the local high schoolers ripping the park to the veteran skiers carving their way down the runs, Mount Brighton’s diverse community is what makes it such an enjoyable place to be. The Mount Brighton community is also very supportive as well. The skiers and riders are always offering tips, whether it be for your first turns or landing your first 720, and they are always there to high-five you once you finally get it. The community feeling around Mount Brighton is what makes this little metro Detroit mountain such a special place for many.
In truth, Mount Brighton is no Jackson Hole, both in terms of size and snow. Because of its midwestern location, sometimes it is man-made snow for a good portion of the season. However, the snowmaking team at Mount Brighton always does an incredible job of keeping the winter fun going for as long as possible. Additionally, the park crew is always coming up with creative park setups to allow the park riders to tap into their own creative sides.
Despite Mount Brighton’s modest qualities, the community that surrounds this ski area makes it an incredible place for people to experience the joy of snow sports. The uplifting atmosphere around Mount Brighton makes it a welcoming place for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels to participate in the funnest activities in the world. I am forever grateful for the Mount Brighton community that made me fall in love with the world of snow sports.
