Hunter Mountain, located in Hunter, New York, is significantly upgrading its lift system this summer. Hunter is replacing its B Lift, “Broadway”, with a state-of-the-art, high-speed-detachable six-person lift built by Leitner-Poma. The new lift will be called Broadway Express. The current B Lift, a fixed grip quad, will be relocated to replace the current Lift-E, a fixed grip double.

The B Lift replacement will be a huge improvement to the skiing and snowboarding experience at Hunter Mountain. According to a Facebook post by Hunter Mountain, skiers and riders will “still be able to access F Lift and in addition to all the trails you could previously reach using this lift… [and now] be able to lap Gun Hill Road,” from the new B Lift.

This new lift will also allow for even better crowd flow. The new lift will transport up to 55% more skiers than the old B Lift. This means that the ‘riders per hour’ capacity will increase from 1,800 to 2,800, effectively reducing lift lines at the resort. Hunter is in need of another workhorse lift like this, as the resort can experience enormous crowds, resulting in long wait times at lifts. These crowds occur consistently on weekends and holidays throughout the peak season.

The relocated B Lift will become Lift E, which will also be realigned. The relocated lift will be realigned in order to better serve skiers and riders. Lift towers will be moved, so that they will not be in the way of ski runs, which will enhance the overall skiing experience of the trail pod around Lift E.

The mountain has recently started construction on these lifts. Crews are have just finished dismantling the B Lift, in order to make way for the new Broadway Express. Construction on the new Broadway Express has begun, with Hunter Mountain stating that the construction crew has “finished [their] first concrete pour of the drive terminal and towers 1 and 2… [and they are currently] prepping the work site for our next step – removing B Lift towers.” The mountain also stated that they would release a schedule for when different lift parts will be completed later in the summer.
