A Sunny Saturday with some good friends, soft turns, and short lines. What more could you ask for?
Jiminy Peak, Massachusetts, is home to terrain for everyone. I found myself there with a small crew for the first time, and I can’t believe I waited this long. Our day started on the Grand Slam Double chair, where we warmed up the legs and took a few laps in Coyote Ridge Park. The setup was full of variety for the best of park riders and beginners.
We then took some top-to-bottom laps off of the Berkshire Express and found some steep terrain with fantastic snow. Westway gives access to a few trails that drop off the front side of the mountain, and though short, these were some of my favorite trails. Consistent pitch and a perfect fall line made for some great turns. Jiminy also has some mellow, sweeping trails that wind their way around the mountain, these were a nice break from the steeps and provided stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Jiminy has all kinds of methods to access the summit. With two different base-to-summit chairs and two mid-mountain summit lifts, it was easy to access the desired terrain. Lift lines were no issue; we never waited for more than ten minutes throughout the day. Most of our afternoon was spent taking laps up on the Whitetail Quad, where the snow got softer as the day went on, and the smiles could be seen for miles.
For lunch, we decided on Christiansens Tavern. The drinks were cold, the menu was stacked with great food, and the service was quality. The front deck bakes in the sun all afternoon; it’s a great place to kick your feet up at the end of the day and relax.
I can’t wait to get back to Jiminy sometime soon. The terrain looks primed for fresh snow, and I think a pow day there has some serious potential. If you’re in the Massachusetts area, be sure to check out Jiminy sometime this season. The terrain, accommodations, and ease of access won’t let you down.
