Now that the crowds are gone and the lifts are empty, mother nature has decided to bring the snow to Kicking Horse again.ย Monday, January 6 saw 9 cm of blower champagne powder like only -15 can bring. To top it off we were welcomed to 18 cm again Tuesday morning. As always with Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the temperatures are going to stay cold and our snow will stay blower for the rest of the week.
Monday saw light wind loading that had the best skiing on the south and east faces. Lap after lap could be had on bowl over or Redemption South, stacking one track next to your previous one. As you skied down the mountain, the snow got better and better. The run quality has improved dramatically this week as well. Increased snow making efforts have vastly changed the coverage and now you only see a few rocks or shrubs poking their noses out. Grooming has happened on Wiley Coyote giving a fast roller laden route down the lower mountain.
Tuesday’s surprise 18cm reset the mountain and made it ski like its been pukingย all winter. All aspects were skiing great and once again, with no crowds, the entire mountain was at your finger tips. Beware of fast moving snow on steeper exposed faces like The Steps. Cold smoke on steep runs can really test your slough management skills.
In short, the skiing is dope, everything is open and it’s mid week.ย
