Friday was a monster day at Kirkwood, with skiers and riders sending it hard. Fresh, firm powder on top of a moist base made for fast turns and stable landings. The warm atmospheric river that rolled across the Sierras this week, but The Wood’s higher elevation spared it for the most part.
Patrollers worked hard to get the mountain safe after not opening on Thursday. With large crowns showing across the ridges, they threw bombs throughout the morning.
Sentinal Bowl opened up mid-day to the delight of shredders. Once is Enough Chute was going off and a brave patroller sent it through the Heart Chute. Eagle Bowl opened up late in the day but slide debris made it treacherous.
Due to a buried lift, the backside never opened and will have plenty of tasty morselsย tomorrow. A colder storm coming inย on Saturdayย morning should add some refills for the weekend skiing.
