Report from March 1, 2024
We awoke today to news that Palisades Tahoe would be closed for the day due to extreme weather.
Nearly all of the North Lake Tahoe ski resorts stayed closed today.
So we gathered up some friends and went backcountry skiing.
The reality is that it didn’t snow that much.
There was about a foot of new snow where we went skiing today and it was very windy up high – up 157mph – but down low where we skied, we didn’t have much wind at all.
It was snowing lightly all day and didn’t accumulate very much.
The snow was on the wetter and denser side, but it skied like a dream…
We did two lower elevation laps and were blown away with how fun the skiing was.
We’re still waiting for the huge snowfall amounts that have been forecasted to arrive.
In the meantime, the storm continues to get extended.
NOAA is now calling for snow from now through Wednesday…
Bring it on!
Note:ย We stayed on lower angle and lower elevation terrain and didn’t see any signs of snowpack instability
Thanks, California!
