Report from February 11, 2024
Yesterday we had a specific objective in mind.
Then we took the wrong skin track and ended up on an entirely different peak than planned.
No matter, it held north-facing trees in the shade of the guarded untouched powder on rolling terrain.
We had nothing to complain about and we embraced our serendipitous turn of fortune.
The snow was soft, deep enough, and very responsive.
We bumped up onto a large, treeless knob we knew skied well halfway down the run.
It was wind blasted and slabby from the previous day’s east wind.
The previous day produced a wind slab avalanche on a similar aspect so we steered clear and crept back into the trees and wind-protected powder.
We were spent by the time we got back to the car.
The past 10 days of non-stop good skiing had taken its toll.
We drove home happy with plans for more skiing the next day and throughout the week.
Tahoe is delivering in a big way right now with another series of storms slated to start again Wednesday.
Watching the 49ers lose the Super Bowl was brutal, but it was a good game and we were surrounded by close friends.
Next year…
Thanks, California!
