Report from March 8, 2024
Well, the monster 102″, 190mph storm has come and gone.
In its wake, it left wind-pressed snow, bizarre snow formations, and clear skies.
We let things settle out and cook the past two days then got back out into the backcountry today looking for corn or pre-nubile corn.
We found it.
Kinda…
Honestly, in the chute I skied today there was just about every snow condition known to man.
Powder, almost powder, ice, crust, old reverse tracks etched out by the booming winds, corn, almost corn, sticky corn.
It was wild…
Felt like it made me a better skier.
I was stoked to be on my shorter, more turny 182cm skis.
The other run we skied was a wide-open run right above the lake.
The snow in there was a weird, wind-contoured, almost corn that was very fun to turn in.
After 2 runs and 4,500-vertical-feet of climbing, we were spent.
The heat was a factor too today.
I was skinning in just a T-shirt…
Got plenty of vitamin D today!
Fox was a beast as per usual and talked me into that second run (the chut) and it was the better of the 2 runs.
We’ve got another storm rolling in on Sunday night that is looking tasty.
Thanks, Fox, and thanks, California!
