As of Monday, June 18 at 7 am, the Upper Colony Fire had scorched 1,180 acres and has reached 5 percent containment. About 300 firefighters, 25 engines, three helicopters, eight fixed-wing air tankers and four hand crews are fighting this fire.
50 or 60 structures remain threatened by the fire, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said, but no structures have been lost.ย Upper Colony Road, Pit Road, and Wedertz Lane remain closed to traffic.
Voluntary evacuations continue. The Lyon County Sheriffโs Office and its search and rescue are evacuating people and managing traffic. Lyon County Human Services and the American Red Cross are operating the evacuation shelter at Smith Valley Baptist Church at 888 Hudson Way in Smith.
A Red Cross shelter team is on the scene as well as a large animal rescue helping with animal evacuations. Animals are being sheltered at Dresser Field.
The cause remains under investigation.
