Report from May 2, 2023
On Monday, May 1, 2023, I drove from Park City, UT to Mammoth Lakes, CA.
The drive was spectacularly gorgeous.
Nevada is green, full of snow, and its dry lake beds have water.
The view of the Sierra as you roll over the final hills is stunning.
The White Mountains also took my breath away.
The only creepy part was the world-famous Clown Motel in Tonopah, Nevada.
Man, I don’t think I’d ever have the guts to stay a night there…
I rolled up to Mammoth Mountain at 1:30pm after an 8-hour, 550-mile drive and it was foggy.
I couldn’t see anything but the snow was nice and slushy.
I skied a few runs and came home happy.
The snow is so deep in town.
Houses are still buried.
I woke up at 7am today, May 2, 2023, planning on having a slow morning.
Instead, I found that it had snowed 5″ at Mammoth and I ran out the door.
I figured it was going to be dust on crust and it was.
I had fun though and found a few fun turns accessing the Chair 3 terrain from Chair 5.
After all the low-angle mini-powder had been skied up, I headed home happy at about 11am.
I came to Mammoth for slush bumps, park laps, and big Eastern Sierra corn runs.
None of that is going to happen this week.
The snow & cold is forecast to continue most of the week.
No worries.
I’m here for 3 months ๐
Hopefully, we get back into a corn cycle next week.
