Mammoth Mountain officially announced it will remain open through Memorial Day weekend, capping off a strong late-season stretch with more than 10 feet of fresh snow since early February. The resort is reporting a base depth of 8 to 14 feet and more snow in the forecastโprime conditions for spring skiing.

The update came via social media, where the resort confirmed the planned closing date of May 26. That would give skiers and snowboarders more than two months of access from today, following a series of atmospheric river storms that buried the Eastern Sierra in deep powder and helped turn around what had been a slow start to winter.
โFrom winter laps to spring corn, weโre in it for the long haul,โ the resort wrote in a post on Friday. โSee you on the hill through Memorial Day.โ
Mammothโs ability to stay open late into spring is helped by its high elevationโits summit tops out at 11,053 feetโand north-facing terrain that holds snow well into May and beyond. Itโs one of the few ski areas in the U.S. that regularly pushes the season this far, and often tops national charts for both snowfall and open days.
This year, the resort has reported more than 260 inches of total snowfall at the Main Lodge and well over 300 inches at the summit. After a dry January, February and March delivered a much-needed reset, with storm after storm refilling the upper mountain and building a base that could carry through to summer.
With conditions this good, expect classic spring operations in full forceโsoft corn snow, slushy bump laps, pond skims, and t-shirts at the summit. Mammoth typically shifts lift access to its upper-mountain terrain as lower elevations melt out, and operates fewer lifts during late-season weeks, but coverage remains reliable for advanced terrain well into May.
The Memorial Day closing date also means Mammoth will overlap with Palisades Tahoe, which has seen 326 inches of snowfall this season so far and also plans to operate through late May. Between the two, California skiers should have plenty of options for spring turnsโeven as resorts across the Rockies begin to wind down for the year.
For now, Mammoth is reminding guests to grab their sunscreen, wax their skis for warm snow, and enjoy one of the longest-running seasons in North America.
