Mammoth Mountain opened on Thursday, November 10th, 2016 as the first ski resort to open in California for the 2016-2017 ski season. Thanks to some natural snow and sub-freezing temperatures that allowed for snowmaking, Mammoth was able to add to the list of open ski resorts in North America. Along with that, Mammoth Mountain has a relatively high elevation, which allows the mountain to experience cooler temps and it helps retain the snowfall that they have received.
“Mammoth Mountain is the officially the first resort open in California! 3 lifts, 9 runs, 6 jibs and a whole lot of top-to-bottom fun,” stated Mammoth Mountain on Facebook on opening day!
