A great white shark attacked a 35-year-old man off the coast of California on Saturday.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reports that the man was swimming off of Grey Whale Cove State Beach, about eighteen miles south of San Francisco, on the San Mateo County coast when an eight-foot shark bit his right leg.
The injured man was able to swim to the shore where paramedics, firefighters, police officers, and park employees treated him with advanced life support measures before he was transported to hospital.
The beach was closed until further notice.
The last shark fatality off the coast of California was in May 2020ย at Manresa State Beach in Santa Cruz County, and before that was in 2012.
