Monarch Mountain, Colorado, saw a high of 38ยบ today without a single cloud or gust of wind.
It was classic spring skiing, with conditions getting softer and softer as the day went on.
We will need the cold weather back, though, to enjoy real spring skiing in April.
Many of Coloradoโs resorts have fallen victim to this weekโs freeze-thaw cycle, but conditions at Monarch today were fantastic.
Soft groomers under blue skies started off a great morning.
Off-piste conditions were enjoyable well before noon, with great runs off of the Panorama lift.

Junior IFSA free-riders took to the Mirkwood Bowl today, putting on a show for those who hiked up to watch.
I learned today that the large cliff in between the bowl and โOrcsโ is called the โNose.โ
This was one of the first days that I got a good view of Mirkwood Basin, and I canโt wait to keep getting familiar with the zone.
The bowl was closed for the comp, but Elation Ridge was open and awesome.
Great views, good turns, and just another day of good vibes at Monarch.
This weekend has allowed for some very pleasant skiing in spring-like conditions, but winter is far from over.
The snowpack is quickly diminishing, and we will need cold weather to come back in order to enjoy real spring skiing.
Cold temps and significant moisture should be the theme though, starting on Monday and heading into next weekend.
Up to a foot of snow should fall at Monarch by the end of this upcoming storm cycle.
Enjoy the blue skies and mashed potato snow while it lasts!
