Recently listed is a $24 million, 9,950 square-foot home that broke the Steamboat Springs, Colorado, record for the highest listing price for a single-family home. The cost of living and inflation seem to have stayed undefeated over recent years. Former president of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment, Jonathan Swain, and his wife Mary Swain bought the home in 2021 for $10 million and could reel in quite the profit on the seven-bed, eight-bath mega-mansion.

This 0.43-acre, ski-in, ski-out property sits near the base of the Thunderhead Express Lift at Steamboat Ski Resort. This is steps away from some of the best lift-accessed terrain, making this home a dream for most skiers and outdoor enthusiasts. Built in 2007, the property is five miles from downtown Steamboat Springs and has more than enough amenities, such as a sports simulator, two-story gym, rock wall, home theater, sauna, cold plunge, a heated pool, and dedicated ski storage to name a few.

The current property owner spoke with Mansion Global regarding the home. Mrs. Swain explained they bought the home with the intention of owning the property forever but have now decided to part ways as they are not skiing as much and would like another family to enjoy it. Mrs. Swain described the home as a winter wonderland.

“It’s a magical home… it’s like being in a snow globe,” Swain said.

Mrs. Swain also described the incredible views from the home.

“The top deck, which has a gas fireplace, is spectacular… You can see the whole valley.”

Incredible windows running floor to ceiling allow for great views of the slopes. No need to view live cams when you can look out the window for real-time updates on the mountain.

During the ownership of the property, the Swains named the home “Over the Edge” because of its proximity to the ski area. Naming the property was not the only change made by the Swains, as it was extensively remodeled and updated under their ownership.

Steamboat Springs is a growing mountain town that is located around three hours from Denver and is host to year-round recreation. Winter is full of the “champagne powder” and followed up by 2,200 vertical feet of cross-country and downhill mountain biking. The combination of beautiful mountain landscapes and incredible outdoor activities, it’s no surprise to see real estate records being shattered in this mountain town.
