Thanks to the recent cold temperatures and lake effect snowfall across Michigan, Mount Bohemia is set to open this weekend on Saturday, December 7, and Sunday, December 8. Michigan’s northernmost ski resort will begin its season with five trails projected to be open, along with its Triple chairlift being open on Saturday and Sunday. The resort will have early-season conditions along with rocks, stumps, logs, and other obstacles underneath the coverage, so caution and slow speeds are advised.
Mount Bohemia is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and has some of the Midwest’s longest runs and deepest powder. With a vertical drop of 900 feet, it blows many other resorts in the region out of the water. Its location and style give the mountain a backcountry feel, providing skiers and snowboarders with challenging runs and a “Rocky Mountain” experience. Despite only having two chairlifts, Mount Bohemia has 550 acres of skiable terrain and 95 total trails, making it one of the largest ski resorts in the Midwest.
While many resorts utilize snowmaking equipment, Mount Bohemia operates completely on natural snowfall. The mountain receives an annual snowfall average of 273 inches, allowing Mount Bohemia to operate without the use of snowmaking equipment. While the resort has only received 34 inches so far this year, northern Michigan is set to receive multiple more inches of snow in the coming days, helping the crews to continue to open more runs as the weather permits.
Mount Bohemia is home to some extreme terrain, requiring that you are an advanced skier or snowboarder to explore the resort. The mountain features only black and double black diamond runs, with the exception of three blue runs, which are still considered challenging. Additionally, Mount Bohemia does not groom any runs, further adding to its reputation as a demanding resort.
The mountain offers a variety of pass options.ย Mount Bohemia has a $109 season pass with no blackout dates, as well as a $99 season pass that excludes Saturdays, both of which go off of sale on December 7. Day passes are available for $95, but the resort will not sell day passes on Saturdays in hopes of limiting lift lines.
As the snow continues to fall and temperatures drop across the Midwest, the winter stoke has arrived in Michigan.ย Mount Bohemia is synonymous with Michigan skiing, and its opening this weekend is the perfect call to Michiganders that the most exciting time of the year has arrived.
