Cypress Mountain Resort will be debuting a new mountain coaster in 2021.

The resort has partnered with an Austrian company named Sunkid, who you may recognize as the company behind magic carpet/conveyor lifts at ski areas across the U.S. Sunkid has also built many mountain coasters, mainly in Europe, but is known for their recent coaster in Revelstoke, BC known as โ€œThe Pipe.โ€

The gravity-fed mountain coaster will be built out of the main base of Cypress Mountain Resort on Black Mountain, where the Eagle Express Chairlift resides. From there riders, will zoom through twists and turns among the forest on the single-track coaster. Each mountain coaster cart will come equipped with a hand brake in case riders want to take it slow and enjoy the scenic views.

โ€œThis activity positions perfectly within our planned vision for enhancing year-round accessibility to our world-class public recreation facilities.โ€

Cypress Mountain Resort is located just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, BC in Cypress Provincial Park. The resort hosted multiple events at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games such as moguls, aerials, ski cross, halfpipe, snowboard cross, and parallel giant slalom. Before Covid-19, I was planning on visiting Vancouver and checking out the ski resort during my trip. Hopefully, I can make my way back up there once the U.S โ€“ Canada border reopens.
