After a warm front slammed Mt. Baker with a rainstorm earlier this week, operators had to cancel their initial plans of a Thanksgiving opening. With a 30 inch base at the start of the week, the Mt. Baker crew felt confident in to open Thursday. Starting Monday, the storm caused them to lose about 2 feet of snow overย three days.
Today’s snow report out of Mt. Baker states they’ve got 9 inches of fresh snow in the last 24 hours.ย The weather finally turned on Friday, but they’re looking to have between a 24-30 inch base before they can open. Gwyn Howat, Operations Manager at the mountain, reported yesterday from the slopes.
Weather forecasts predict another foot of fresh snow by the end of next week, which should give Mt. Baker the base they need to open for the season. Hope you folks in the area get to start your season ASAP!
