Mt. Baker Press Release:
UPDATE: we are planning on the SKI AREA RE-OPENING FRIDAY Feb. 10th for normal midweek operation. After meeting with the WSDOT this evening, we have word that the highway will remain closed Thursday morning and mid-day, but will re-open Thursday early evening. The highway has been closed from Glacier up to the ski area due to fallen trees, but the DOT has been working to clear the highway all day with 3 crews, including our local crew and additional resources from down south. They are confident that they will have it cleared and open by Thursday late afternoon or early evening.
Additionally, as you drive through Maple Falls and Glacier you will notice that there is a huge 42 inch snow base alongside the road – that’s the most snow we’ve seen in this area in many, many years.
Forecasts are calling for a warmup tomorrow but then we’re expecting a rapid cool down Thursday night with snowfall expected Thursday night through Friday
The Baker crew that has been up here on the other side of the closure have been working throughout each day this week to keep the ski area in good shape to be ready to open.
For all you folks rolling in for the Banked Slalom โ the race course is set, timing system is up and we are ready to go! We’ll be ready to start racer check-in Friday morning at 8:15! Click the link on the right for a full schedule of events, racer list and more.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all on the mountain again on Friday! For the most recent updates check our snow report at: http://www.mtbaker.us/snow-report
