Report for Wednesday, January 10, 2024

I had planned to ski Mt. Hood Meadows on Tuesday this week, however, due to the first official blizzard to hit Mt. Hood in over a decade, the resort was closed.

Thankfully, I was able to work my schedule to come the next day.

As forecasted, the morning report showed 31 inches had fallen since the lifts last spun, however, a delayed opening was expected so the resort could dig out and de-ice the lifts.

A large line gathered at the main lift starting at about 11:00 a.m., but I knew better, and headed for the fixed grip double Daisy Chair.

After over a three-hour delay, which saw an additional three inches of snowfall, I was first in line when it opened at 12:37 p.m.

This was the first true powder day of the season, and it did not disappoint.

The snow was deep and soft in most places and packed powder in the wind-affected areas.

There was hardly any grooming, or if there was, it had been buried completely.

As I loaded the chair at 2:08 p.m. for my sixth run, I heard that the main Mt. Hood Express lift finally opened.

It was game on.

I skied non-stop until they wouldn’t let me on lift anymore, hitting all the frontside bowls and more.

I had no problem finding deep fresh tracks in all my favorite stashes.

It was too cold, windy, and awesome to bother with getting any action pictures.

More snow is on the way too.
