NOAA has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for California’s mountains for Monday and Tuesday.
Total snow accumulations of 12-18 inches above 7500 feet with localized amounts of 2 feet along the Sierra crest. - NOAA Reno, NV today
Snow levels will be high with this storm.ย
Don’t count of snow below 7,000′.
4-12 inches are possible between 7000-7500 feet with up to 2 inches down to 6500 feet. Precipitation type below 7000 feet including South Lake Tahoe may start with rain-snow mix early Monday morning, before becoming all rain Monday, then switching back to snow Tuesday.ย - NOAA Reno, NV today
You’re going to want to go high with this storm.ย
Hopefully, Wednesday morning is wildly good at the higher elevations of Mammoth and Tahoe.
“Moderate to heavy snow will occur Monday evening through Tuesday evening above 7000 feet for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Mono County. Expect snow levels on Monday to be near 7500 โ 8000 feet and then fall to near 6500 – 7000 feet by Tuesday morning.
High forecast confidence in big snows for areas above 8000 feet, but snow accumulations become tricky in the 6000 โ 8000 foot range as snow levels will vary with this system. We could see more rain or end up getting a good amount of snow in areas such as Tahoe City, Truckee, and Virginia City. That is why we have posted two snowfall scenarios due to the varying snow levels.
There is high forecast confidence that areas under 6000 feet will have minimal to no snow accumulation. Most snow will fall and accumulate on Tuesday contributing to significant reductions in visibility and difficult travel conditions with long delays.” – NOAA Reno, NV today
