The July 4th holiday will continue to see high heat and humidity, especially across the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys where heat indices could exceed 110 degrees in the afternoon.
The heat should become slightly less intense along the East Coast beginning on Independence Day but the real relief from the heat will not arrive until later in the week across the Great Lakes into the northeastern US.
The extremely dry conditions, combined with high temperatures and light winds have resulted in many areas of the country banning firework celebrations on the fourth.
