After a Thanksgiving treat of around 2 feet of cold fluff, December 3rd decided to drop another 6 inches of the white stuff at Kirkwood Mountain Resort that would ultimately lead to a blue sky powder day on the 4th. The forecast the day prior did call for at least a foot of snow, but sadly, that did not pan out as had hoped. However, in a severe drought, I’ll ski anything especially after spending Thanksgiving week sipping Mai Tais in Hawaii. Plainly speaking, this old guy was in dire need of a good ol’ Chair 6 session.
Before lining up with the powder-hounds around 30 mins before opening, patrol told me that a brief rain storm on December 2nd solidified the snow a bit and to ‘be careful of the chunder.’ With that advice in tow, I decided to pump out some much needed pow laps before exploring the technical lines off the Chair.
As it turned out, the snow was fluffy fast, and that rain layer covered the rocks perfectly to allow for some aggressive skiing. From Lightning to Oops & Poops to Lower Norm’s Nose to Olympic, we found all the nooks and crannies one could ever have asked for at this point in the season.

I figured December 4th, 2015 was a perfect day to rumble in the snow…
The sun is out and with new snow on the road, I think today will do…
The first lap consisted of a sunny run down Olympic…
Anton Kushlan found a pocket of fun on the lower mountain…
With Cornice Chair (Chair 6) open, there are plenty of hidden gems scattered around to keep you busy…
On Lower Oops & Poops, the Nooks and Crannies shined through…
Back at it, Anton gives the gratuitous powder shot another go…
Early season laps on Lightning are good chuting fun…
Feels good to play in the snow…
Maybe you like steep groomers…Upper Zachary is now being groomed!
Chamoix provided some wall to wall turns ending in a 6 footer…
We decided to do a few more laps on Lightning since our boarding brothers have a bit of a struggle traversing over there…
Below Lightning, we were greeted with some ideal high-speed tree skiing…
With a storm in the forecast, I decided to pack down skier’s right of Chamoix…
Oops and Poops provides the needed airtime for old extreme skiers…
Sometimes I wish skiing was not so damn fun…
Now I know why my lower back is sore…
We checked out Little Jims and it just needs around one more storm…
Ski School Chute to Lower Jims coverage is getting there…
Lightning and Glove Rock showing off their features…
Found another sweet line exploring the above zone…
Vista coverage and Round Top Peak in the background…
Meanwhile, The Wall patiently waits to open…
Anton and I took our final few laps underneath Norm’s Nose…and found some early season crannies…
Which led to a nice early season hourglass chute…
On the final lap we went one nook over…and found a fun volcanic-walled line…
Its crazy that this will be practically buried on ‘normal’ years…
AND I HEAR SNOW IS IN THE FORECAST????????
Caseyโ your reports are the the most fun to read by far! Great video and pics
