Report from 21 August 2024

Hold fast, hearty skiers and boarders; Ohau is a snow field with a few wild cards to play.

This small operation with a big reputation has been dancing between sunbeams and wind whirls for a few days now, and a good โ€˜whapโ€™ of weather is closing in.

Make no mistake, sunbake, night freeze and Father Time have gradually hedged the best of each dayโ€™s snow conditions to Ohauโ€™s trail network. Beyond their bounds lurk shivering seas (and knee stress). ย But going with the jet stream yields the pleasure of riding a mountain that seems to be dancing with the rider.

Several national teams have caught the drift to the good times always going down at Ohau Snow Fields, which has made for good viewing and great company while shrapping away the spot-blustery afternoons.

Ohau ski-faithful are crossing their toes, as a zesty front is whipping through while this typedโ€ฆso only tomorrow will tell.

Itโ€™s classic New Zealand riding (& racing) itโ€™s one of the best aspects to skiing and snowboarding here.

But thereโ€™s one other tiny sure-thing to keep in mind as we wait for whatโ€™s in store: itโ€™s already an epic season at Ohau Snow Fields, New Zealand.
