Report from 5-6 October, 2024

Commercial snow operations wrapped-up with a SLASH at much-beloved Ohau Snow Fields.

Sun, calm, and casual retro-ski rad-ness were highlights of the closing ceremonies at this premier snow field in New Zealandโ€™s Southern Alps.

Kicked back, with the bridge of our nose burning under bright kiwi sun, we wonder, โ€˜How on Earth does it always manage to be so good?โ€™ Yet it is.

In some odd little way, every single day really does shineโ€”with or without olโ€™ Mr. Sun.

Itโ€™s the spirit, we suppose, a very-tangible feeling superseding the elements and landing home the good thing going down any given day at Ohau. Add to that a community fabric of unparalleled quality, and the rest simply falls delightfully, unforgettably into place.

Thereโ€™s more skiing yet to be done, and those daysโ€™ll be great. But they just wonโ€™t compare to slush-fest, sun-soaked timeouts like this weekendโ€”when the whole bloody mountain transforms as one big wiggle course and all that really doesnโ€™t matter truly slides.

If eternity could be a best-case-scenario, then for us itโ€™s Ohau Snow Fields on a sunbeam & slush season finale. Of that we can be certain.

Til next season, dear Whanau and as always; cheers.
