Report from February 2, 2024

Yesterday was another sneaky powder day at Palisades Tahoe, CA.

They reported another 4″ of snow overnight and it snowed hard all day.

We got out first thing and went straight up to Granite Chief.

We got in some quality powder runs but we were still hitting the firm snow underneath and it didn’t snow quite enough to cover up the old tracks.

We skied Granite for a bit then headed down to KT-22 and it was pretty good down there as the snow and wind were filling things in.

Then, at 12:30pm, we went home for a snack, a rest, and a meditation.

We came back out at 2:30pm and it had been dumping snow for hours.

KT-22 was now skiing very well and we skied hard and had a blast right until 4pm.

Then we snuck out for a short backcountry run before calling it a day.

The forecast right now is calling for 3-5 feet of snow on the Sierra Crest 10pm Saturday through 10pm Monday.

“Snow accumulations 1 to 3 feet for Lake Tahoe and eastern Sierra communities below 7000 feet, except up to 6
inches for areas below 5500 feet in Mono County, and 3 to 5 feet above 7000 feet.” -NOAA, 2/3/24

According to the UC Berkeley Snow Lab on Donner Summit, we are at 65% of average snowpack here in Tahoe right now.

“We received 12.8″ (32.5 cm) of snow in the last day and 25.2″ (64 cm) in the last week. We have 65% of average snow water equivalent to date.” UC Berkeley Snow Lab, 2/3/24

Thanks, California!
