Report from February 16, 2024
We were frantic last night on coming up with a plan for today.
Backcountry? Where?
Palisade? What’s gonna open? Will the hikes open?
Is it gonna be sunny or cloudy?
Did the snow get cooked?
We couldn’t figure it out and at the last minute, around 10pm, we decided on Palisades as a default.
We awoke today to cloudy, foggy skies with the dewpoint and temperature matched and a relative humidity of 98%.
We went back to bed.
We showed up at about 9:30am and the skies were clearing.
Scott wrote us and said that the Mainline Pocket landings were good.
When we first saw Mainline there was only one track…
We ran up there and started picking off lines.
Spitter, Far Right Rock, Banana, Cheese Grater, Spitter Alternate.
We ended up hiking Mainline 5 times in a row before the light finally went for good.
Clouds had been threatening to shut things down all day but never quite did…
At about about 12:45pm the clouds and fog finally rolled in and turned the light flat.
Fox and I headed to Wildflour for a chicken Caesar wrap and a chicken cranberry sando on an everything bagel.
Life was very good.
Neither of us had quite fully woken up today yet we skied some very spicy, exciting lines.
It felt good to have somehow made the right call and harvested some good skiing and spongey landings.
We then met up at the Bridgetender for burgers, California burritos, and garlic waffle fries for dinner.
Tomorrow we get a bit of a rest day before it all starts over again on Saturday.
Let it snow!
Thanks, California!
