Report from February 6, 2024
Today was yet another powder day at Palisades Tahoe, CA.
Ski day #56 (#361 since Dec 8, 2022).
We got first tram and raced for Granite Chief.
The Andy Hays & Nate Kush went for Glory Rock right under the chair and neither quite pulled it off.
Nate lost his helmet cam…
Owen Leeper and I went for the world-renowned “Triple Goat” lines and we are happy to report that all 3 goats now go and are damn fun.
Then we saw Fox roast a backflip off “Fat Lip” so we grazed our way over there for lap #2 (my first backflip at Palisades in a long time…).
We both got in backflips and decided to come back for another on lap 3.
Unfortunately, the lip had been destroyed by then so we moved on to Mainline Pocket and my destiny…
We’d decided not to wait for Granite Chief Peak as ski patrol said they were waiting for visibility to open it and the fog was building fast, Patagonia-style from the east.
Mainline got the same fog by the time we got up there.
I unwisely launched Far Right Rock during the last possible window to huck but I was mistaken.
The light was flat and the landing much harder than anticipated.
I put down my powder landing gear instead of my terrain park landing gear and got spanked.
From there we cranked Headwall and KT laps until 2:30.
We randomly were there right when Sun Bowl opened and it was fun but also already a big sun cooked with a zipper skin.
East Face and Dead Tree on KT were skiing great right until the end.
Josh A laced Eagles Nest at 1:45pm and inspired me.
I haven’t hit Eagles Nest since 2011 and I think it’s time to get back up there.
Fog and flat light shut down a day that might have been wild…
More snow tomorrow then possible sun on Thursday.
Damn, it’s gonna an epic week here in Tahoe.
Thanks, California!
