Report from December 20, 2024
Today was the last day of Autumn 2024.
Today was also the first day the legendary KT-22 opened for the season.
KT holds the best terrain at Palisades Tahoe, CA, and it showed.
KT didn’t open until noon as patrol was waiting for conditions to soften.
Once it popped, everyone went nuts.
I saw just about every local I know grinning ear-to-ear and shredding as many KT laps as possible.
We started with just GS Bowl, East Face, and The Saddle, but things quickly escalated until damn near everything was open, including The Fingers.
The only zones that I think were closed were Red Dog Ridge and Enchanted Forest (the extreme skiers right and left).
I’d planned on a short day, but once KT popped, I ended up staying out until 4:30 pm.
To start, East Face was amazing.
Slushy mashed potatoes with speed.
After a handful of laps there, we went west and found Rock Garden open with no tracks…
Delicious.
I noticed that Ahhh Chutes were untouched and went directly there.
I got the first Ahhh Chute of the season, and it was nefariously fun.
After that, we tried Chute 75.
It was damn steep with solidly challenging skiing.
More Rock Gardens, Colemans to Easy Fingers, then more Rock Garden until they kicked us out.
What an incredible day.
I had no idea that KT would open today.
Nate saw people skiing it from our Broken Arrow lap, and we made a B-line.
Simply incredible terrain that will make anyone better.
Thanks, Palisades Tahoe Professional Ski Patrol & thanks, California!
