A parking stall in Whistler Village has sold for an astonishing $195,000 CAD.
Stall number 45, located at 4320 Sundial Crescent, sold for the full asking price within a week of going up for sale. Normally, you wouldn’t expect to see a parking spot listed on a reputable real estate website, but paying as much for a parking spot as some people pay for a small house, or at least a decent down payment, makes it understandable.
The staggering price is undoubtedly due to the location and the rarity of spots like this coming to market. The stall is located right at the base of the Whistler and Blackcomb gondolas and at the base of a luxury hotel in the heart of all the action. Spots like this only become available maybe once a year, and this is reported to be a record-fetching price for a parking spot in the town.
The spot, which went up for sale after the previous owner moved away from Whistler, is described as “the ultimate luxury accessory for your Whistler lifestyle,” as well as “perfect for those who own a home in one of the outlying neighborhoods of Whistler, or weekend warrior looking for quick access to the slopes.”
This transaction seems like an exorbitant purchase to the everyday skier. Parking in the day lots at Whistler costs $14 a day. This means it would take over 38 years of parking every day before you would break even. The Creekside base area at Whistler is even more affordable, which offers free underground parking just a short walk away from the Creekside Gondola.
Clearly, the buyer of the spot doesn’t care about the money. They are only focused on convenience because who wants to ride the bus, walk to the lifts, or scrape snow off your windshield after a long day on the slopes? Homeowners in Whistler may not have convenient access to the village, so a spot like this is a hot commodity. Plus, if you own a $10 million home in Whistler, you’re probably going to want a village parking spot to go with it.
