While it is only ten days until the start of winter in Australia, ski resorts down under seem to have gotten a head-start on the white stuff, as resorts in New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria (VIC) woke up to up to 20cm (8 inches) of snowfalls on Monday morning.
Temperatures across the south-east have been below the May average, allowing perfect conditions for snowmaking, and were helped in some areas by some decent snowfalls, with the NSW resorts, like Thredbo and Perisher, receiving more snow than the VIC resorts Mt Buller, Hotham or Falls Creek.
The forecasts for the coming ten days are very promising, with estimates for snowfalls ranging from 10 (4 inches) to 27 cm (11 inches), depending on the resort. A strong cold front will move in on Thursday, May 25, from the Bight, bringing rain in lower-lying areas and snow above 1,400m (4,593ft). The snowline will drop to 900m (2,953ft) by Friday.
Ski resorts across Australia will open on June 10, 2023, which is a long weekend due to Monday, June 12, being a public holiday. With a forecast like this, with less than three weeks to go until the ski season starts, itโs time to get excited about skiing and boarding. Epic Australia Passes are still on sale for AUD 1,099 until 31 May 2023, so donโt miss out.
