ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Report from Tuesday, December 10, 2024ย

After a week between storms, Alta is ready for some more snow. The current sharky early season conditions have been slightly improved by two inches in the past 24 hours, adding to the current base of 28 inches and 87 inches of total snowfall this season. This recent storm brought new snow to rip through and softened up the previous hardpack. However, it is still early, so obstacles are noticeable, and manmade snow is still being made.

However, the mountain has a solid amount open given these early season conditions, with the infamous ballroom area open and most everything off of the Collins and Wildcat chair, excluding the High Traverse. The Sunnyside chair is open for the season if you want to get a friendly groomer run in to start the day; however, the Supreme chair, which services areas like Catherines, is not yet open.

The recent snowfall provided a little more to the areas like High Rustler, which seemed to have slightly more snow than other areas at Alta. This snow provided a refresher from the previous hardpack conditions that had been present for the past few days. More snow is expected to fall within the next few days, with two inches expected on Thursday and Friday.

Although Alta is often known for its powder, the groomers are also great. Alta’s groomers have been great for skiers who don’t own a pair of rock skis or don’t want to damage their daily. With excellent bluebird conditions today, the groomers were firing.

As snow continues to fall, Alta’s snowpack continues to fill in. With Alta’s heavy snowfall months approaching and the solid snow they have already accumulated, it will surely be a great season up Little Cottonwood Canyon.
