CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. – Jan. 7, 2025 โ€“ After receiving more than two feet of snow in the past 11 days, Crested Butte Mountain Resort has opened its T-Bars, and all resort lifts are now open for the season. Known for providing access to some of the most challenging terrain in Colorado and beyond, the resort’s acclaimed T-Bars have been a defining feature of CBMR’s character for decades:

  • The North Face Lift: Open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., skiing down from the North Face Lift is one of the best ways to earn your aprรจs and fully immerse yourself in CBMRโ€™s unique resort experience. The initial terrain package included access to 181 acres of extreme terrain, and the resort is working diligently to expand terrain offerings in the coming weeks. Stay up to date with the latest openings by visiting skicb.com.
  • The High Lift: At a breathtaking elevation of nearly 12,000 feet, the views seen from atop the High Lift are some of the most picturesque in the state and the runs accessed from it are among the toughest. With both front-side and back-side extreme terrain to choose from, the High Lift is a gateway to adventure in some of the resort’s most iconic zones including Headwall, Banana, Teo Bowl, and even CBMR’s namesake โ€“ the summit of Mt. Crested Butte.

You havenโ€™t skied extreme terrain like this before

With slopes exceeding 50 degrees โ€“including Rambo, the steepest tree-cut ski run in North America โ€“ unmarked cliffs, mandatory airs, and hike-in/hike-out terrain that can add up to 30 minutes to an outing, CBMR’s Steeps demand a high level of technical skill. Crested Butte Mountain Resortโ€™s extreme terrain features over 150 uniquely named zones, and exploring all 561 acres of this expert terrain can take years, if not decades, to accomplish. This legendary terrain has tested the skills and nerve of CBMR guests for nearly 40 years and continues to provide limitless opportunities forย exploration that bring skiers and ridersย back season after season.

Spectate at the Steeps

Want to see what the Steeps are all about without actually skiing them? Crested Butte Mountain Resort is excited to host four IFSA freeride competitions this winter. These competitions showcase the skills of some of the most daring skiers and riders on the mountain as they descend the resortโ€™s most challenging terrain. Home to one of the first-ever freeride competitions, CBMR is a classic venue for freeride events, and non-competitor spectating is highly encouraged! From junior to collegiate, to professional level, CBMRโ€™s 2025 freeride comps promise big air, stout line choices, andย creativeย descentsย that make you rethink whatโ€™s possible on this kind of terrain.

Staying safe while skiing extreme terrain

CBMR places the highest value on the safety of our guests and employees, and skiers and riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the National Ski Areas Association Responsibility Code before venturing out on the mountain, both in extreme terrain and anywhere else. In addition, itโ€™s recommended to check the weather, ensure your equipment is in great condition, and let a buddy know where you plan on adventuring before you head out the door. A safe ski season is a long ski season!
