The 2025 International Snow Sculpture Championships concluded yesterday, January 25, showcasing the artistic and technical skill of 12 teams from around the world. The event, held annually in the historic downtown of Breckenridge, Colorado, transforms massive 25-ton blocks of snow into intricate sculptures using only hand tools. Over five days, teams dedicated approximately 94 hours to carving their designs, creating a temporary outdoor art exhibit open for public viewing until January 29.
This yearโs competition featured teams from Argentina, Quebec-Canada, Finland, Germany, India, South Korea, Mexico, Mongolia, Turkey, and the United States, including two from Wisconsin and one representing Breckenridge. The selection process began months in advance, with 250 invitations sent in June, artist submissions reviewed in August, and a final roster chosen by a selection committee.
The results of the competition highlighted the diversity of talent and creativity on display. Victory went to Team Germany with its gravity defying modern art sculpture, while second place and the Artistโs Choice Award went to Team Mexico, who XXX Third place went to Team India. The 2025 Peopleโs ย Choice Award went to Team South Korea for their sculpture โIn The History We Remember.โ
The sculptures, now open for public viewing day and night, continue to draw visitors who marvel at the intricate details and ingenuity of the artists. The event is presented by Toyota and serves as a highlight of Breckenridgeโs winter season, celebrating international collaboration and creativity in a unique format.
