Exciting news for Australian skiers, as the weather Gods seem to have taken pity on us after an unseasonably warm latter-half of July.
Clear sunny skies gave way to a cold front that brought clouds and precipitation to the Snowy Mountains in Australia. The forecast for today, Thursday, August 10, 2023, calls for a top-up of between 5-10 cm (2-4 inches).
Todayโs cold front will be followed by another one on Saturday and two more fronts early and late next week, having the potential of bringing between 25-50 cm (10-20 inches) of snow. Nights are forecast to be below freezing levels, so snowmaking should also help keep the runs going across Australian resorts.
Australian ski resorts across Victoria (โVICโ) and New South Wales (โNSWโ) saw between 5-10 cm of snow this morning. Falls Creek and Hotham confirmed that 5 cm fell this morning, Mt. Buller reported 4 cm while NSW resorts saw about twice that amount.
It is supposed to stay fairly overcast, with snow flurries possible almost every day. Across the different weather forecast channels, all meteorologists seem to agree that the biggest possible snowfall will be next week Thursday and Friday, August 17 and 18, 2023.
Keep up the snow dances, folks!
