In 2023, Bobby Brown, with help from Red Bull, officially held his first iteration of Red Bull Cascade, in Winter Park, Colorado. Bobby Brown has been known in the ski world for years with an extensive background in slopestyle skiing and many X-Games medals as well as for his film productions with Red Bull. His new event, Cascade, was created to combine freeride style jumps with classic park features, providing a unique approach to an already unique discipline of skiing. In 2025 the event is still going strong and now takes place at Solitude Mountain Resort, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, near Salt Lake City, Utah. โ€œWe wanted to find a mountain that could hold the course the way we really wanted and I think Solitude is a better fit for some of the more all-mountain and freeride aspects of the course,โ€ Brown told SnowBrains.

Brownโ€™s vision of the event encompasses the idea that it can be hard for up-and-coming skiers in the sport to make a name for themselves. Cascade was created to make opportunities for talented skiers to shine and show what they are capable of. โ€œWe want to build it to be a platform for younger riders so they can show their skills, their all-mountain, freeride abilities, and start with an open qualifier to get younger riders in and so more unknown riders can come in and compete against the pros, I think thatโ€™s the dream,โ€ Brown explained. With an event that already provides a unique amount of creativity, his goal to make it more available is refreshing to see in what can be a very competitive discipline.

This year the event was organized into teams, starting with a qualifier and then organizing athletes into teams. Each run from each athlete was judged in the CSCDE system: Creativity, Speed, Choice of Line, Difficulty, and Energy (with each category awarding 10 points max). The team with the most total collective points would be crowned champion of Cascade for this year.

Unfortunately, the event was cut short due to inadequate weather, but all athletes were able to put down impressive runs before the snow arrived. Team 1738, consisting of Cody LaPlante, Hans Wiener, Jed Waters, Josie Peterson, and Ryan Buttars, took the win this year at Cascade with 189.3 points. Team No Speed Checks scored 177.6 taking second and Team High Cascade took third with 172.9 points. Luke Price of Team No Speed Checks won the Maverik Adventure Award, which was a rider-voted award to the athlete that encompassed the spirit of Cascade.

Red Bull Cascade stands as a unique event in Red Bullโ€™s lineup and this year provides smiles and entertainment as some of the worldโ€™s best uniquely competed against each other. It is exciting to see whatโ€™s next for Bobby Brown and Red Bull Cascade as the competition continues to evolve.
