Report from January 14, 2025
Yesterday we rolled out to Revelstoke at about 9 am.
The Selkirk Sea (low river valley clouds) was kickinโ down low and thin clouds were driftinโ up high creating a classic BC cloud sandwich.
We were skiing some glorious groomers inbounds when we saw a big hole developing in the upper cloud layer to the West.

We threw on our packs and bounced outta bounds into the sidecountry hoping to hit the cloud hole just right.
The sun starting piercing the clouds illuminating the peaks to our south and west.
We worked quickly skinning and skiing to get out to our target bowl.
As we crested the final ridge, the hole in the clouds was closing.
Buckling, cinching, adjusting, clipping-in in a fury.
Quick plan.
Quick drop.
Smoooooth pow.
Tight turns through small ghost trees to start then big, wide-open turns on the apron.
Gliding to stop I felt how tired I was.
- The longest run of my life (10K) on New Years Eve
- The longest drive of my life (13.5 hours) on New Years Day
- A big tour in the Kicking Horse sidecountry on Jan 2
- 7 days of 3,500-vertical-feet of backcountry skiing (Jan 3-9)
- 2 ski days at Revelstoke
- 1 huge day in the BC backcountry
- 1 day in the Revelstoke backcountry
2 short skins and we were back in bounds for a 4,000-vertical-foot groomer.
My quads felt like they were going to explodeโฆ
This place is humbling.
At the top of the gondola we got a burger at the MacKenzie Outpost.
Cโest magnifique!
Thanks, BC!
