We all love the mountains and what they allow us to do every year, whether skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, or any other snow sports activity. It is where we go to get away from stress and work, unwind, and enjoy life for a little while. It is our winter playground and has the potential to provide great experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
Although the mountains provide all those things for us, the terrain and conditions provide the environment for dangers and hazards. Avalanches are a danger and threat to anyone in those areas and must be taken seriously at all times. That threat does not care if you are skiing, boarding, or snowmobiling, and it is something everyone needs to be aware of on the mountain. Ski-Doo and its parent company,ย Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), understand this and have provided free avalanche awareness seminars for the last 15 years.

Seminars take place in the U.S. and Canada, and participants can register with a host dealer to find a seminar location. Mike Duffy leads the U.S. seminars and is a certified instructor, course provider, and member of the American Avalanche Association. He is recognized as one of North America’s leading experts on snowmobile training.
Besides having on-site training seminars, Ski-Doo also offers online video courses on backcountry avalanche safety. The videos focus on avalanche safety gear, riding terrain, understanding the snowpack, reading avalanche risks, and more. The Responsible Rider Program is also a topic focused on in the training. That program discusses being aware of your surroundings, safety, riding etiquette, and the environment.ย
Safety should always be a primary concern, whatever winter activity you participate in. Ski-Doo’s free seminars on avalanche safety are an excellent way to get trained on operating in these areas. For more information about avalanche safety classes, visit Ski-Doo’s website.
