As if the dusting of snow last weekend was not exciting enough, Tahoe Fund is here to pile on the fun. Tahoe Fund is kicking off the annual ‘Plates for Powder’ program that offers the opportunity to ski for free by purchasing a Lake Tahoe license plate. Proceeds from plate sales and renewals help support environmental improvement projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Spanning across Lake Tahoe’s two home states, California and Nevada, drivers who buy a new Lake Tahoe license plate through April 1, 2025, will receive a free day pass for use during the 2024-25 winter season while supplies last. Participating resorts include Palisades Tahoe, Boreal, Heavenly, Northstar California, Kirkwood, Diamond Peak, Sierra at Tahoe, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, Tahoe City Sports Park, and Tahoe Donner Cross Country.
For over a decade, the Tahoe Fund has run the Plates for Powder program in partnership with the California Tahoe Conservancy and the Nevada Division of State Lands. More than 95% of the funds raised through plate sales and renewals go towards creating new hiking and biking trails, restoring watersheds, and preserving Lake Tahoe’s iconic beaches and crystal-clear waters.
